What can we learn from the Apostle Peter

Peter the “Rock”

For most of his life, Peter was known by the name Simon to those around him—his family, friends, and neighbors. Jesus, seeing potential in him, sometimes called him Peter, which means “rock,” to signal the strength and stability He saw in him. Despite this, Simon Peter often acted more in accordance with his old self, struggling to embody the steadfast qualities of a “rock.” This pattern is familiar, as even those who are redeemed and forgiven can still fall short. Like Peter, we all wrestle with our old natures and past desires. And sometimes, as Peter did, we revert to our old habits (2 Peter 2:17-22). That’s why the apostle Paul urges us to “lay aside the old self” and “put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24). Peter, like each of us, sometimes needed to be reminded of his new identity in Christ—a reminder we too inherit through the name and spirit of Christ (Acts 4:8-12).

Fear is a liar

Simon Peter’s failures, notably his denial of Jesus and his lapse of faith on the Sea of Galilee, have been extensively explored in religious teachings. In the latter incident, Peter walked on water towards Jesus but sank when fear overtook him, leading to a profound moment of rescue and rebuke by Jesus. These experiences shaped Peter into a leader capable of teaching others about steadfast faith. In his writings, Peter stresses the importance of focusing on Jesus to prevent spiritual faltering, understanding deeply that fear and doubt can undermine even those who have witnessed miracles. When we take our eyes off of Jesus and forget that we are called and chosen (2 Peter 2:10), we are no longer condemned (Romans 8:1), we are cared for (1 Peter 5:7), and we can never be separated from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39), we too will sink.

Unlikely Heroes

Flawed and imperfect, Peter was nevertheless called by Christ, who, in His grace, perfected, confirmed, strengthened, and established Peter from beginning until the very end. Jesus knows that no one is perfect—failure is inherent in our humanness. Just as Jesus was ready to forgive and reinstate Peter for usefulness, He is ready to do the same for you and I. Whatever spiritual failure you are presently experiencing, is an opportunity for you to experience the grace of God. It is better to be a follower who sometimes fails than one who fails to follow. Peter was a fisherman from Galilee, but Jesus called him to be a fisher of men (Luke 5:10). Because Peter was willing to leave all he had to follow Jesus, God used him in great ways. As Peter preached, people were amazed at his boldness because he was “unschooled” and “ordinary.”

From the owner’s heart

I’ve come to realize that standing solely on our own strength is a notion I no longer embrace. As a medical practitioner, husband, father, and someone who has seen many successes, I believe my truest achievement lies in dedicating my life to Christ. My goal extends beyond helping men excel in their health; I aim to guide them towards thriving in Christ as well. God has blessed me with the unique opportunity and gift to assist millions of men dealing with low testosterone. It is my profound responsibility to share the transformative love of Lord Jesus Christ with others. As Jesus himself said in John 15:5, “Without Me you can do nothing.”
